The Evolution of Carbon Disclosure and Sustainability Research: A Bibliometric Study of Scopus-Indexed Publications
Abstract
The increasing importance of climate change and sustainable development has encouraged greater attention to carbon disclosure as a tool for corporate environmental transparency. This study aims to analyze the evolution of carbon disclosure and sustainability research through a bibliometric approach. Data were collected from the Scopus database using the keywords “carbon disclosure” and “sustainability,” resulting in 282 publications published between 2008 and 2026. Bibliometric analysis was employed to examine publication trends, influential authors, highly cited documents, leading journals, and keyword occurrences. The findings indicate a significant growth in publication output, particularly after 2020, reflecting increasing scholarly interest in the field. Sustainability, climate change, carbon disclosure, and sustainability reporting emerged as the dominant research themes. The study concludes that carbon disclosure research has evolved into a multidisciplinary field that supports sustainability objectives and provides valuable directions for future research.
